A new school year has started and a lot of lunch boxes to make - were do  I go for inspiration to make my lunch box more exciting and not borring?. To make my lunch box exciting with so many restrictions that my diagnose gives is a every day challenge. A month ago a new challenge was
thrown at me, I am now also lactose intolerant, this makes my repertoire even smaller.
 

On a nice sunny day at the lake I was laying on the pier and reading magazine and I found an article about a book that main purpose are to give parents new inspiration and ideas for the kids lunch boxes.

I fell in love with the book right away (I  must admit that I am a book lover, I have more books than I can count, especial cook books ) I decided that this is a book I need to have. I dont have any kids yet, but I thought that this book can give me some inspiration. A couple of days later I

,began my quest for the book, I went to all the books stores close in my visinity without any luck (I dont like to ask for help, so I went home empty handed), when I got home  I made some research on the internet and found out that the book was not  out in the stores yet, the release date was 3 weeks away. So the "long" and cruel wait started.

 

 

In the  mean time I began my search for the perfect lunch box. The kids at work have had a lot of fun lunck boxes from a Norwegian designer that is called Blafre, I have always loved these boxes because of the fun designe, but I have never wanted one myself. Mostly because they are kind of "childish" as they main target are children. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Now I wanted one myself, beause they remind me of my childhood and they room a lot of small boxes and food. I bought this retro style with colours that reminden me of my Old Daycare center I went to in the 80s.

 

 

 

 

I bought these small boxes when on holiday this Summer, they are perfect for left overs from dinner, fruit, veggies and other good food.

 

Because of my diet I bake all my bread and rolls myself, I had 

 just made a batch of fresh rolls the other night that  I cut in half and freeze. Every morning while in the shower I heat them in the oven. This way I have fresh rolls every day. I just HATE stale bread/rolls.

 

I just love my little birdie that eats the little red berries.

My Man of the Year?

On my hunt for Christmas presents the other day I came by this funny gingerbread man spatula ( from Jernia). I got it for a nice price too. I think this will be my man of the year and it fit perfectly in my brown jar with my other kitchen utensil.

I am in cookware heaven!! Party, Party, Party!!

Last Winter I remodeled my kithcen and I had to throw out all my pots and frying pans exept a wok and two iron pans as I installed a new stove with a induction top. The sad ting about that was that I had to get rid of my beloved pans from Høyang Polaris, the Party collection. They are really expensive and I could not afford to buy all new ones all at once, so I have been on a lookout for a sale and today I finally found one. I was going to buy one pan on a half price sale, and was really happy about that, but guess what!. After picking the box down from the shelf I stumbled over another bargain, 3 pans in different sizes on a 40% sale.  I payed NOK 1000,- and saved about NOK 1500,-. Now I can wish for something exiting for my birthday instead of money for pots and pans.

The reason I love and swear to this collection is the reinforced non-stick coating that is essential in fat free cooking. The party collection is also functional and the designe is nice. The quality of the pans are very high as well.

And look how nicly they stack and they take almost any space at all.......

Not only homemade food, but also homemade recipe books.

I have for as long as I can remember collected recipes, when I started on my life changing diet a couple of years ago I had to start all over. Last fall I made a resolution to organize all my recipes. I desided that I would make two recipe books, one with the recipes that I want to try and one with the ones I have tried and liked.

  I can't see the point in collecting recipes I don'  much care for. Along the way I make little notes on the recipes of adjustments and modifications that I make. I made the front cover of one of three recipes books last fall and I have been working for the second one for months now, but I have lacked the inspiration to finish it. A couple of nights ago I finished the second one and made the third one that will contain recipes from Flo's Diner. And here are the results, I am pretty pleased.

Before I am satisfied with this project I will have sorted the pages in different categories and scrapped separators.

A genius little gadget to have in the kitchen

A coupe of years ago a got this genius little gadget from my Mum, at first I rolled my eyes and thought what have she bought for me this time. Of course I got a little curious how this knife on wheels worked. It turned out to be love at first use, it cuts the garlic in small pieces in just a few seconds and all my fingertips are saved for all further injuries. It's also easy to clean, just rinse it with hot water, lay it out to dry and its ready for use the next time you need to use garlic in your food.

News in my kitchen

Yesterday I went to see a friend of mine who lives in Oslo (the capital of Norway) it is a 30 minutes drive from my house. Before I went to see her I had to stop by Traktøren a store with kitchen utensils  where she had bought me this beautiful and practical oil and vinegar bottle with a drip free spout, you can read more about it here. After only a couple of weeks use the spout fell into the bottle which is not suppoe to happen and when I had to pull it out with some force it broke apart. My teory is that the mct-oil I use have ruined the rubber/plastic material the spout is made of. Of course I did not tell the store clerk that when I went to complain and return it, so now they have sent the bottle back to the distributor to see if I can get a new one. I am hoping that it was not the oil that made the product weak, and that I will get a new bottle which is just an amazing kitchen helper.
The point and thought of this post is that I really fooled myself when I thought I could go into just one store when there are many interesting stores just down the street and not buying anything else than the planned spagetti mesurer. After returning my much loved bottle, I bought the spagetti messurer so I can cook the right amount of spagetti for dinner, I always cook way to much. After looking some more around in the store and actually being a good girl and putting back several cool stuff that I wanted, we went to another store. My friend was looking for a thermos cup so she can bring the rest of her morning coffee on the tram to work in the mornings. In this store I found some cool turquoise cooking spoons. This was a sentimental buy since my Grandmother had cooking spoons like these ones. Not turquoise, but I just love the color.

 I also found myself a thermos cup from Bodum, for more products look here. Many of my colleagues have one of these and I have though that I don't need one since I am not much of a hot beverage drinker, but this one was on sale and I love the color!!. After buying the cup I of course had to buy som fresh tea, so we went to the nearest tea and coffee shop where I bought the most delicious Rooibush Mango tea. It is so good that I don't have to add sugar or honey to it. Since I had made a couple of non planned buys I had to find some good reasons justify my purshases: so here they are : number one now I can bring along both hot AND cold beverages and number two since it followed an extra lid without the strainer I can bring a hot toddy (with no alcohol) along also.
IT IS SO FUN TO SHOP!!!

My great kitchen helper

I got this amazing creation from Eva Solo, DK for Christmas.This drip free oil and vinegar bottle is one of the most practical gifts I ever have recived. The drip free spout  spare my kitchen for a lot of oily spill. I get my mct-oil from the pharmacy in the most ridiciulous bottle that drip and spill oil like a leaking faucet. This fantastic creation from Eva Solo makes it fun to work in the kitchen. I am also blessed with a water carafe from Eva Solo that I just love. Eva Solo is a modern Danish design that I think everone should at least have one product of in their kitchen.
